The competitive response of airline companies on the aircraft technological innovation
• In the context of NECTAR project,we study the air stakeholders’ behavior given the introduction of technological innovation, which allows to accommodate growing air traffic with lower impact on environment. One of the tasks made by ENAC researchers in NECTAR is to assess the competitive reaction of airline companies to the introduction of the biggest passenger double-deck aircraft A-380. The first main question to which we are seeking the response is: given the introduction of the A-380 on Origin-Destination market, do other companies have incentives to follow this innovation? The second question is whether after the introduction of A-380 there is a decrease in flight frequency due to higher capacity of airplane, allowing for better operational efficiency and lower level of carbon footprint. The presentation will introduce the previous model and obtained results, literature review of existing studies, the extension and enhancement of the econometric model and next steps of the research.
